Introduction |
|---|
nCleaner is a system cleaner that allows you to clean both your system and applications, free more disk space, boost your system's speed and get more stability and privacy protection.
nCleaner is the most complex system cleaner on the market offering not one but five (5) different modules each contributing to a clean, fast, stable and safe system. The necessity for such an application has arisen after analyzing the software market and noticing that most applications are either much too expensive for what they offer or not offering enough to satisfy users.
One of nCleaner's many advantages over other similar applications is that if you buy nCleaner you get not only an advanced system cleaner which includes both a file cleaner, a registry cleaner and a plugins platform, but also you get an advanced Startup Manager module and a Tweak Utility module along with other advanced cleaning solutions like an a Free Space shredder and a module to scan for and remove unnecessary files of all types, and also you can use plugins to clean applications. So it's like buying 5 applications for the price of one due to the nature of nCleaner based on modules.
nCleaner has the best cleaning ration on the market, also providing security and stability. nCleaner can help users gain more than 1GB of disk space by removing unnecessary files like log files, temporary files, dump files, unnecessary backup files and so on. nCleaner supports and handles all major Internet browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer (and all derived browsers like Avast), Mozilla Firefox, Netscape and Opera. It also supports and handles all major Instant Messaging applications like Yahoo Messenger, Windows MSN Messenger, ICQ, AOL and Skype.
With nCleaner you can:
Regarding privacy issues:
As you work on your computer and browse the Internet, you leave behind traces of what you have done. These traces may be in the form of temporary files on your hard drive, lists of recently used files in programs, lists of recently visited Web sites, or cookies that Web sites place on your hard drive.
Anyone who has access to your computer, whether a hacker or someone who sits down at your desk, can view these traces and know where you have been and what you have done on your computer. Removing these traces may be particularly important if you share a computer with others or are working on a public computer. In addition, some Web sites place small files, called cookies, on your computer. Cookies store information about your interaction with a Web site. That information may just track which ads the site displayed while you were there to make sure the site does not display the same ads. Other cookies may store preferences that you set, passwords you create for the site, information about the pages you visited, and more. Even if you use encryption on your files to protect them, temporary files that are frequently stored on your computer do not contain any encryption. Temporary files often result from a program closing because of a problem. Someone accessing your computer can open those temporary files and see the data in them.
nCleaner comes to solve this problems by cleaning unnecessary log files and by removing unused cookies and cache files (temporary internet files) from all major internet browsers.

Plans for the future:
How to use |
nCleaner can be used on any computer with Windows XP, Windows Vista or later installed. Make sure you close all open applications before cleaning.
On the main screen of the application, or the HOME screen, you will find 8 buttons to different modules and screens like Settings and a link from where, if available you can see the application's log file. The log file is kept only if the user has selected the Save Log option from Settings->Statistics and is turned off by default. By clicking on any of the 8 buttons you will be taken to another screen inside the application. In the lower side of the main screen you will find 4 links and information area in the right corner where you will see useful information like if updates are available for nCleaner or if you have selected a possible unwanted setting like "move deleted files to the Recycle Bin". In the upper part of the screen is the System Advisor that warn users of possible harmful settings attributed to spyware like a different shell. for more information about the System Advisor look below at the System Advisor section.
Options and information from each screen is stored and remember for the next sessions. All selected or unselected cleaning items will be remembered on the next sessions until you modify them.
DO NOT clean using default options. Go through the available options and select what you want to be cleaned (DELETED) and what you want to keep, from every screen (module). Also be absolutely sure it's safe before adding a startup entry or removing a startup entry or before applying any option the Tweak screen (module). If you don't understand what an item represents unselect the item checkbox and check this help file for more information.
REMEMBER TO CLOSE ALL OPEN APPLICATIONS before cleaning your system, application, registry, scanning for unnecessary files and shredding free space. This will ensure that there will be no data corruption and that other applications will not be affected.
Modules:

- System Items : Here you find Microsoft Windows related items like Recent Items, Temporary Files, History and other Miscellaneous items. These items occupies space on your hard-disk and can be a privacy issue by keeping track on all the files you open and your actions. This information stored either in files or in the Registry.
Recent Items contain data like recently opened or edited files in various Windows applications recently opened network connections or recently launched multimedia applications. There is no risk on cleaning (removing) these items.
Temporary Files are files created by some applications to store data. These files should be removed by the application that created them when it exits or when Windows restarts. These files do not contain permanent data. There shouldn't be any problems removing these files as long as you close all open applications before cleaning, so make sure you close ALL applications before cleaning your system, to avoid data losses.
History items contain data like recently opened files and applications, recently searched for files, and info regarding Start Menu. These items are stored in the registry and do not occupy any space on the hard disk, but they can be privacy issues.

Shred free space to permanently remove deleted files
Using this module you can permanently remove files or folders you have previously deleted using [DELETE] or [SHIFT]+[DELETE] or by emptying the Recycle Bin. Files you delete using Windows Explorer or other file manager that doesn't use shredding can be very easily recovered using an undelete or un-erase application. You can improve privacy by permanently removing these files using shredding. The shred overwrites each file that has been deleted, with random characters. You cannot recover shredded files using an undelete or un-erase program.
You can select which drive\partition\hard disk you want to shred for previously deleted files by checking the checkbox next to it's drive letter.
This module displays every application or dll that is launched at startup. Unlike other applications of this kind it doesn't only show startup entries from common location but also shows hidden locations and system locations, where applications can hide themselves and start at Windows startup. Here you can find 2 screens, one that shows the common startup location (Applications tab) and another where you can see system startup locations and services (System tab).
If a listed file is launched at startup the checkbox next to it will be checked, otherwise the file will not be launched at startup. You can at anytime re enable an item by checking the checkbox next to it. You can also permanently remove a file by right clicking and selecting Remove. You can also search a file name on the Internet (using Google) to find out more about that application.
For each file (entry) displayed you can see more options by right clicking on it. Now you can launch the selected file, see it's properties, and find information regarding it on the Internet by using Google. From this list you can even permanently remove each entry (file) from it's startup location. You can also right click an location to and collapse or expand all startup locations.
Add Entry button at the bottom of the list allows you to add a file you want to be launched at startup. You have to insert it's path (using the Browse button) and the startup location where you want it to be added. The file will be launched at startup in the same way no matter the startup location you select.
Save as Text button at bottom of the list allows you to save the list with all files launched at startup as a text file that you can share with more advanced users that might be able to spot possible mallware files.
You can start or stop services by clicking on the System tab, selecting a service from the list and clicking the Start button to start the selected service or the Stop button to stop the selected service.
This module allows you to modify hidden Windows settings to improve your system's performance and resource consumption and most important improve your system's privacy protection and security. This module is divided into 2 tabs. The first (General tab) holds all general system and performance related tweaks and a second tab (Privacy tab) that holds all privacy related tweaks.
You also have 3 profiles you can activate that will automatically select options that either improves security or speed. You can also use profiles to restore all settings to Windows defaults ("System Default"). Use "Suggested" profile to enable all privacy and security options at a small performance cost. Use "Performance" profile to enable all performance related options and most security and privacy related options at the same time. You can select any of the last two profiles according to your security and performance requirements.
You can see a description for each Tweak item by clicking on it.
NOTE: Before applying any profile you must go through options list and make sure you enabling or disabling any of the option won't negatively affect you and\or your computer.
Make absolutely sure you know what you're doing before applying the settings. If you are experiencing problems with your system apply and "System Default" profile.
To see the description for an item just click on it to select it from the list and a description will appear in the right bottom corner of the screen.
NOTE: If you're not sure on what a certain option (item) from the list does then make sure you leave the checkbox next to it unselected before clicking on the Apply button.
If you have questions regarding any item here you can email to support@nkprods.com or contact@nkprods.com
This module allows you to search for and remove unnecessary files from your hard disks. This will remove files like backup files, log files, temporary files and other. You can also add your own file type you want to be searched for and afterward deleted. You can also search for empty files and empty folders. In the file type list you will also find a disabled item, Log Files. This scans for all .log files but it filters log files that might be system files and installation and configuration file. Even with filtering files, the scan for this file type is still not 100% safe so make sure you want to remove all selected items before you press the Remove button.
There are 2 kinds of Scan types available. The Smart Scan only scans the Program Files directory and all its contents, and the Documents and Settings directory and all its contents. The Full System Scan will take longer to complete because it scans all folders from all hard disks and all partitions. This scan type can recover more space but it will take much longer depending on the amount of data on your hard disks.
To add a new file type to search for and remove just add it's extension (like .txt or .jpg) and then click the add button in the lower right part of the screen. In the list make sure the checkbox next to it is selected.
After the Scan is complete you will be displayed a list with all found files that match the selected criteria in the previous screen. You will see that all files in the list have an unchecked box next to them. This means that when you clean using the Remove button these files will not be deleted. In order for files to be deleted you must check the checkboxes next to them.
Before selecting a file for removal you must make sure deleting that file is safe for you and your system and applications. For this see it's properties and it's contents and based on these and it's name make a decision on whether it is safe or not to delete it.
You can Exclude folders from scan by clicking on the Exclude Folders link on the right side of the screen. Press the Add button to select and add folders inside which you don't want to scan while looking for unnecessary file types.
The settings screen contains global options for the application and it's modules. These options apply to all modules in nCleaner. Here you can find 4 different screens (tabs):
General:
Password Protection: This option allows you to protect all nCleaner options with a password while still allowing users that do not know the password to clean the computer but without being able to modify any option like cleaning items or settings without entering the password first. The password needs to be entered only once each session. The password is encrypted.
File Security: Here you can select whether you want to shred files. This option is valid for the first module in such a way that each removed file will be permanently removed. The shred overwrites each file, that has been deleted with random characters. You cannot recover shredded files using an undelete or un-erase program. NOTE: Using shred the clean process will take longer. Here you can also select to move removed files to the recycle bin instead of permanently deleting them. You can also tell nCleaner to delete only files older than specified hours. This means it will not delete files that have been accessed before the specified hours. this is useful for not removing temporary files that may be in use by other applications.
Miscellaneous: Here you can select whether or not to show the splash screen on nCleaner start and whether you want nCleaner to automatically check for updates and new versions from NKProds at startup. If you have an firewall installed on your system you must create an rule to allow nCleaner to check for updates. Here you can also disable the System Advisor. You you disable it you will no longer see messages at the top of nCleaner's main screen.
Statistics:
Log: Here you can enable or disable the log file and you can also delete and open the log file if it exists. This option is disabled by default.
Statistics: nCleaner can be set to remember useful statistics about cleans, like freed disk space and last clean dates. Here you can clear or totally disable statistics. These statistics are also shown in the about screen.
Schedule:
Schedule: Here you can select whether you want nCleaner to start in the system tray at Windows startup. You can also schedule nCleaner to clean your system using the first module at startup, at shutdown (after cleaning you will be prompted to restart or shutdown your computer) or at specified time intervals.
Here you can specify if you want the system to be restarted or shutdown after each System and Applications clean.
You can make scheduled cleans silent. This means that nCleaner will clean your system in the background, without disturbing the user.
Please note that in order for schedule options to work nCleaner must be running at the time at which the schedule is set to run. All schedule options in this screen refer to System and Applications Clean only (Registry Clean is not included).
Update:
Here you can check for new nCleaner versions, see what's new and also update the current installation. When you click Check for updates, nCleaner connects to www.nkprods.com, downloads a file, and check for new versions. If a new version is available you can click Update Now to download the new version's installer and install the new version over the existing version.
Default Button: This button resets all settings to default. This includes settings for all modules, like selected item for the System and Application module or settings for the Find Junk module. If settings haven't been reset correctly you can also delete the options.dat file found in nCleaner's folder.
Log file
If enabled the log file will contain a list with all cleaned items (deleted files, deleted registry entries, deleted cookies and so on) along with the time and date on which each cleaned occurred. If this button is disabled the the log file doesn't exist. The log file will be updated on each clean. To enable the log file creation go to Settings and select Save Log.txt option. This option is disabled by default. You can delete the log file from Settings screen by pressing on the Delete Log link.
The System Advisor displays warning at the top of the main screen. This messages warn users of possible harmful settings, or if critical system values are modified, important system features (like Windows Update and System File Protection) are turned off or if it detects suspicious files that may be Trojans or other malwares. There are a total of 30 possible system advices.
To fix or learn more about a warning message just clean the message. Here you can either click the fix button to fix the problem or you can click Go To to go to the specified location to find out more about the problem.
NOTE: Make sure that the modified value reported by the System Advisor is unwanted before fixing it or changing it's value. Some setting may be legitimate and changing them might affect system stability and security.
Command line arguments:
nCleaner support the following command line arguments (use without ' ' like: C:\Program Files\NKProds\nCleaner.exe -c):
If you have any questions or troubles with nCleaner you can e-mail your question, any suggestion or idea you may have to support@nkprods.com or contact@nkprods.com
